Git deploys

Pull your code from GitHub, GitLab and others, by hand or on every push.

The Git tab pulls your code from a Git repository into the server folder. It's made for Discord bots, websites and custom servers you develop on your own computer.

#Connect a repository

  1. Open Git and paste the repository's https:// address. GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Codeberg and other Git hosts work.
  2. Choose the branch to deploy, for example main.
  3. For a private repository, add a username and an access token with read access. Leave them empty for a public one.
  4. Save, then click Deploy to pull the code.

A deploy fetches the branch's latest commit into the server folder and restarts the server, so the new code runs straight away. Files from the repository are replaced with its version; files it doesn't track, like .env or node_modules, are kept.

Turn on Pull on every start to deploy the latest commit each time the server starts or restarts. If the pull fails, the server starts with the files it already has.

#Deploy on every push

Turn on the webhook to deploy automatically whenever you push:

  1. Enable it to get a webhook URL and a secret.
  2. In your Git host, add a webhook (GitHub: Settings › Webhooks › Add webhook) with that URL and secret, for push events.
  3. Push a commit. The server pulls it within seconds.

Make a new secret replaces the old one; the webhook stops working until you paste the new secret into your Git host.

#Good to know

  • Keep secrets like tokens out of the repository. Put them in .env instead (see Discord bots).
  • Disconnect removes the link to the repository. Files already in the server folder stay as they are.
